Cancer Information and Support Centre

The Cancer Information Support Centre provides information and support for anyone affected by cancer. The service is provided from two Macmillan Information Centres - in Peterlee and Newton Aycliffe,

Services and resources available:

  • Information and support - we offer information and support to the person with a cancer diagnosis, their families and friends
  • Advice, information and practical drop-ins provided by fully trained cancer information specialists on a one to one basis. No appointment needed.
  • Freephone Helpline – available during office hours, Monday - Friday
  • Welfare Rights – the centres have a welfare rights officer designated to work with people living with cancer their families and carers
  • Jessica's Headwear service - available to clients who have suffered hair loss through cancer treatments
  • De-stress and relaxation - regular sessions available for anyone affected by cancer including family and friends
  • The Big Picture - art classes for people affected by cancer - no artistic experience required
  • Living With and Beyond Cancer – survivorship advice sessions designed to support people after a diagnosis to lead a full life after treatment has ended
  • Bereavement counselling – available only to people living in the Easington area (sessions offered by appointment only)
  • Snowdrops breast cancer support group – available in Peterlee only on the 2nd Monday of each month
  • Library – selection of books and dvd's available for reference or loan
